Stepan Kudrya

Advisor to the Directorate of the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Senior Researcher, Professor.

Education

In 1971, he graduated from the Chemical Engineering Faculty of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Technology of Electrochemical Production.

In 1978, he defended his PhD (Candidate of Technical Sciences) dissertation entitled “Investigation of Electrode Processes in Nitrate Melts.”

In 1989, he was awarded the academic title of Senior Researcher.

In 1996, he defended his Doctor of Technical Sciences dissertation entitled “Systems for Energy Storage and Conversion of Renewable Energy Sources.”

In 2006, he was awarded the academic title of Professor.

In 2018, he was elected a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Professional Experience

1971–1980 — Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Department of Electrochemical Production; Engineer, Junior Researcher, and Senior Researcher.

1980–1987 — Design Bureau “Shtorm” at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute; Head of the Sector of the Research Department.

1987–2004 — Institute of Electrodynamics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Head of the Department of General Problems of Renewable Energy Utilization within the Division of Integrated Energy Systems Based on Renewable Energy Sources.

Since 2000 — Director of the Intersectoral Scientific and Technical Center for Wind Energy at the Institute of Electrodynamics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Since 2002 — Lecturer at the Department of Renewable Energy Sources of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”; Head of the Department.

Since 2004 — Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs, Head of the Wind Energy Department, and Director of the Institute’s Intersectoral Scientific and Technical Center for Wind Energy.

2016–2026 — Director of the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Since 2026 — Advisor to the Directorate of the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Awards and Honors

Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology; recipient of the “Leader of the Fuel and Energy Complex” Diploma; Honorary Certificate of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Central Committee of the Trade Union of NAS of Ukraine Employees; “Badge of Honor” awarded by the National Agency of Ukraine for Efficient Use of Energy Resources; recipient of the title “Inventor of the Year of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine”; Honorary Badge commemorating the 130th Anniversary of the Scientific and Technical Union of Power Engineers and Electrical Engineers of Ukraine for significant contributions to the development of Ukraine’s energy sector; Commendation of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian science, dedicated service, and high professionalism; Second Degree Diploma of the NTUU “KPI” Prize for the textbook “Non-Traditional and Renewable Energy Sources”; Honorary Gold Badge of the Main Board of the Federation of Scientific and Technical Associations of Poland for active participation in establishing and developing the Joint Ukrainian-Polish Center for Advanced Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technologies; Commendation of the Mayor of Kyiv for an outstanding personal contribution to the development of Ukrainian science and the strengthening of the scientific and technological potential of the capital city on the occasion of Science Day; Honorary Title “Distinguished Professor of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.”
