Workshop 4
Invitation:
Workshop on Key Building Blocks of a Green Hydrogen Tracking System in Ukraine (GerUCCHy Project)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Thank you for your interest in the GerUCCHy project. Ukraine has the potential to become a key trading partner for the EU’s green hydrogen economy. For deliveries to the European market, establishing a tracking system for the origin and sustainability of the hydrogen produced is a key requirement.
As part of the research project “GerUCCHy” (German-Ukrainian Research Cooperation on the Certification of Green Hydrogen), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), we cordially invite you to our fourth and final online workshop. The project is a cooperation of HIR Hamburg Institut Research gGmbH and the Institute of Renewable Energy at National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (IRE).
Topic: Key Building Blocks of a Green Hydrogen Tracking System in Ukraine
Date: Tuesday, 28 April 2026
Time: 09:30–10:30 CET (10:30–11:30 in Ukraine)
In this workshop, we present recommendations for the key building blocks of a tracking system for green hydrogen in Ukraine. Moreover, we outline a possible roadmap for the practical implementation of such a system.
Agenda:
- Introduction toGerUCCHy (Dr. Alexandra Styles, HIR)
- Recommendations for the key building blocks of a green hydrogen tracking system in Ukraine(Timo Hoelzmann and Dr. Alexandra Styles, HIR)
- Roadmap for the implementation of a green hydrogen tracking system in Ukraine(Dr. Alexandra Styles and Timo Hoelzmann, HIR)
- Discussionwith participants
This event is designed for representatives from politics, industry, academia, and civil society. Participation is free of charge. A translation between English and Ukrainian will be provided.

THE INSTITUTE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY OF THE NAS OF UKRAINE RECEIVED THANKS FROM THE “FREEDOM” BATTALION
The other day, representatives of the “Svoboda” Battalion came to IEE to present the Certificate of Appreciation and express their gratitude to the Institute of Renewable Energy for helping the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the war against the Russian aggressors.
“I would like to thank Stepan Kudra, Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, for his active participation in charitable assistance to the Svoboda Battalion – the formation of the National Guard of Ukraine, military unit 3018,
which is part of the 4th brigade of operational assignment. You are our reliable rear and efficient front. Glory to Ukraine!!! Glory to the Nation!!!” – wrote a representative of the Svoboda Battalion on his Facebook page.
PRACTICAL WORKSHOP ON INSTALLATION AND ADJUSTMENT OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM
On October 28, 2023, a practical workshop on mounting and setting up a hybrid balcony solar system was held at the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in continuation of the project “Green Reconstruction of Ukraine: Sustainable Solutions for IDP Housing”.
The event was organized by the NGO “Agency for Sustainable Development “SYNERGY” in partnership with the NGO “Hromada” and “Ukraine-Hilfe Berlin e.V.” with the financial support of the Foundation “Nord-Süd-Brücken e.V.” from the funds of the Development Cooperation Agency (Berlin) and the Fund named after Heinrich Böll, Kyiv-Ukraine Bureau.
Representatives of the organizers and donors of the project addressed the participants with welcoming words. Stepan Kudrya, director of the institute, spoke on behalf of the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences. He emphasized the importance of holding joint educational events of scientific and educational institutions in cooperation with the public and non-governmental organizations, and also spoke about the advantages of establishing autonomous SES.
During the workshop, the participants had the opportunity to consolidate the acquired theoretical knowledge in practice: in the first part, there was a demonstration and explanation of the features of connecting and installing the hybrid balcony SES, and in the second part, after dividing into three working groups and receiving the necessary equipment, the teams independently assembled the hybrid SES under the supervision of experts.
PUBLIC DIALOGUE “PROSPECTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF GREEN ENERGY COMMUNITIES IN UKRAINE”
On October 27, 2023, experts from the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine took part in the public dialogue “Prospects for the Development of Green Energy Communities in Ukraine.” The event was organized by the Agency for Sustainable Development “Synergia” in cooperation with wechange eG within the framework of the “Civil Society Energy for Resilient Ukraine” project, funded by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Auswärtiges Amt).
The dialogue brought together participants from Ukraine and abroad, who discussed the prerequisites and advantages of public energy in Ukraine, nuances of the legislative framework and regulation of energy communities in Ukraine, financing and investment opportunities in energy community projects, development prospects and challenges for creation and operation energy communities, shared their experiences and established connections.
The speakers and organizers of the project exchanged opinions and views on the chances and obstacles on the way to the creation of energy communities in Ukraine, talked about cooperation at the level of man-community-state in the development of green energy in Ukraine, as well as about the use of European and, in particular, German experience in creation of cooperatives. Together with the experts, the participants agreed that energy communities are a strategic direction of Ukraine’s development.
